I am very much looking forward to a great weekend with my beautiful family. We are celebrating my 97 birthday (or something like that). Unfortunately this year, Eldest Sons are unable to be here, as work and other committments get in the way, but I will be very much thinking of them both. Especially OffSpring No 2 - Kris, who not only has made it to his own 24 th birthday on the same day as mine, (relatively unscathed) and who was the best birthday pressent I ever had. He has also made it to Numero Uno in my family, and therefore has a bigger slice of the inherritance, (3 cats and an Ipad) by sending me my own body weight in luxury chocolates, from Thorntons. This has made him my favourite person on the planet. He also sent me a Bridal Barbie, which I now have on my desk, and I will be accessorizing her later. (very funny Kris, but thank you anyway!) So I would like to send him my dearest, sincerest and deepest love, not only for the chocolates, but for being a son who has made my world a better place, and who makes me smile [...]

The chance to hire your dream dress, may often seem to good to be true. People can perceive it to be one dress fits all, but that is not the case. 90% of dresses we hire are brand new, and I always tell you if it has been hired before. If alterations are required, then these are done by our amazing seamstress Dyll, to ensure a pefect fit. I wanted to share with you photo’s of my beautiful client, Lisa, who has kindly said I can use her wedding photo’s, to show how beautiful and easy it is to hire your wedding dress. Lisa wasn’t sure whether she wanted to buy or hire her dress, so she kept her options open. She found this beautiful Nevada dress, in Ivory and Charcoal, and instantly fell in love with it. She travelled quite some distance to come and try on the dress, and when she was aware that once the dress was booked to hire, we would not hire it to anyone else before her big day, she was sold on the idea of hiring. It meant that she could have the dress stored here with me, have fittings done, (although Lisa [...]

I sometimes see the heartbreak that a cancelled wedding brings. Often the cancellation is for no other reason than just plain old fashioned bad luck, but it is always devastating and expensive. Wedding Insurance is often thought of as expensive, but I recently came across www.leisureinsure.co.uk who have insurance cover for your wedding from as little as £15.00. This is only available to couples getting married in the UK, so destination weddings are not covered, but I think it is well worth taking a look at. We had a bride here who had to cancel her wedding as her Dad had a serious and sudden illness days before the wedding. She, and the whole family were too distressed to go ahead with the day, but as they were not insured, had to make the difficult decision to cancel it, knowing that it would take years to save up again. Wedding insurance doesnt cover ‘cold feet, or change of heart’ and there are other exclusions, but it does cover illness, accidents, adverse weather and theft or damage of wedding attire. We have also seen so many brides in tears, who have had a dress damaged or destroyed by poor storage, [...]

As the rain continues to pour, the Great British Drought is in full swing, and as we wade through the floods, and battle through the rain, the sunshine of Spring seems an impossible dream. However, here at Savvy Cinderella our thoughts are turning to Winter Wedding Capes. We can hire our capes from stock, (depending on availability) or you can have a custom made cape, ready for your winter wedding. Our capes go all over the world, to remote Scottish Castles, Stately Homes, up to Lapland for picturesque Winter Wonderland Weddings. Our capes are made to order, and are made in taffeta or satin, in ivory or white, and look stunning with linings to match the cape, or in contrasting colours. Pale pink inside an Ivory Taffeta Cape looks beautiful, and a strong vibrant red looks incredible inside an Ivory Satin one. We can make them with an embroidered pattern, or without, depending on your own tastes. The embroidery can be done in silver or gold or red thread, incorporating pearl or diamonte detail. You can choose to have the smaller hood,(as pictured above) or the oversized hood (scottish widow style). We can make them with a stand-up [...]

January is so busy with brides choosing their wedding dresses for Spring and Summer weddings at Savvy Cinderella, so I rely heavily on all the lovely people, than help me to be able to work the hours that I do, and keep our home running. Janette does my paperwork, Dyll the seamstressing, and I am lucky enough to have Victoria come along and do my cleaning in my office and home once a week, and without her, we would be buried under piles of paperwork, books, games and washing. It is so lovely to know that whilst I am at work, my house is being transformed from a midden to a show house, and to know that all our worldly goods are in safe hands. What is so lovely about Victoria, is that she is young, bright and cheerful, and doesn’t judge. I was worried when I first considered a cleaner, that whoever came would nose about in our belongings, and tell all the neighbours how we lived like slobs. But with Victoria it has been so easy. She hasn’t run away screaming, or sobbed her way around the house as she tackles the mountain of debris that our family [...]

Christmas is just around the corner, and I cant wait to spend time with my family this year. We have had a couple of brilliant Christmas parties already, and tonight we are set to celebrate with my lovely friend and seamstress Dyll, and next week we are off to the Plate and Porter in March, to celebrate with some much valued friends. I love Christmas! Last weekend we held the Savvy Cinderella Christmas Bash at Coombe Abbey in Leicestershire. The evening was attended by myself and Nick, and a very good time was had by all. It was originally going to be an evening with George Michael, but as he has been struck down by illness, we decided it would be rude to cancel all our plans, so we decided to make the most of the evening, and have our own Christmas Party. The weekend could have got off to a better start, as we rushed around like fools trying to get the kids safely over to my parents, sort out the cats and make sure all was done and safely secure for our night away. Nick was pleasantly surprised that we left only 2 hours later than we planned, [...]

We have been spoilt by the lovely Heather from Cakes by Heather Jane. Over the past few months, she has brought delicious freshly baked cakes for us to try at Savvy Cindeerella, and we have tried and tested them vigorously, and I can say that I think we need to have a few more before we can conclusively make a final judgement. It is a hard task eating cake, enjoying cake, resisting the temptation to eat more. But, if anyone is up to the job, it is me. I take the responsibility as cake tester very seriously, and each cake we have had, we ensure we leave no piece untested. We are thorough and dedicated, but our work is never done, there will always be (hopefully) more cake for us to try. In our family, my children know that it is my responsibility to check each desert that they eat, in case it is poisoned! They know I do that, not because I want to, but it is my duty as a mother to look out for them. In restaurants, we get odd looks as they kids pass a chocolate fudge sundae over to me, (automatically now, I’ve trained them [...]

I was very sad to hear that one of the areas loveliest Bridal Stores was closing down. Clare Louise in Cottenham has been well known for many years for her excellent collection of dresses, and her helpful manner. It is such a shame that in this economy even the very best are not immune to hard times, and I know that the owners of the business were exceedingly hard working, and had built up a solid reputation throughout Cambridgeshire. My heart goes out to them, and to their clients, who must be very worried at this time. When this happens, as a customer, the first thing you must do is not to panic, but to contact the appointed solicitors to find out the situation. The suppliers of dresses and suits are always willing to help, but obviously have to do so within guidelines and limitations set out by the official bodies that govern these things. But nobody wants unhappy, devastated Brides, so everyone pulls together in the industry to help out as much as we can. Wedding Insurance is important, and it is advisable that if you consider taking it out, to check that the policy covers situations like insolvency [...]

I heard this week that my beautiful Aunty Rene had died. It wasn’t unexpected, as she was very old, very frail, and ready to put up the closed for business sign. She lived a long life, and was always happy and cheerful, yet behind the smiles, I realised were a lot of tears and heartbreak. We all wore poppies recently to remember the war dead, yet thinking about it this week, I understand that a lot of people sacrificed lives, yet carried on living. Rene was niece to my fabulous Grandad Bennett. After he died, she was a link to the past, that I think both my Mum and I clung to. She would tell us stories about Molly & Fred, that were seen through young eyes, when she and they were living in Shotton, North Wales, after the first world war. She would hand out leaflets with my Grandad for the Labour Party, and enjoyed listening to all the political talk from the young members of an ‘exciting new party’. She would talk about the arguments the young men would have about the War, the recession, the poverty, and although they must have been frightening times for a [...]

We recommend many people that we have come to know and love over the years. From Make-up artists to Florists, we hear first hand and see for ourselves the quality and service that these companies provide, and the people who run those companies. I met the owner of BeauRose in 2010, an I love her beautiful floral arrangements. If you are looking for Silk Flowers, BeauRose based in Ely, Cambs are the people to talk to. Amanda has an eye for detail, and is a perfectionist, which is exactly how you want your florist to be. People spend a lot of time looking at the flowers in the Church, at your bouquet, and at the table decorations, so you want everything to be perfect. Amanda listens to exactly what you want, and then creates beautiful works of art with her flowers. I was not a huge fan of silk flowers, as I have seen people get it so wrong, and rather than a beautiful bouquet, it can look like a display taken from a hotel bathroom. Badly put together plastic flowers, spoil the look of everything. But having seen the stunning flowers that Amanda uses, I am [...]

As winter is now fast approaching, we turn out wedding thoughts to what to wear over your dress, if it is freezing cold. Last year the early snow in November saw us inundated with calls, with brides begging for winter coats, capes, wraps etc., and although we were able to help with the majority, some brides were left disappointed because we sold out due to the high demand. This year, forecast is for it to be colder than average, so if you are having a winter wedding, and plan to be outside for photo’s or even just for the walk from the car to the church, please prepare early. If you think you will want a cape, wrap or coat, please act now, to avoid disappointment. We can make the winter coats and capes to order, and also have a selection to hire. But please do book early. The Winter capes can be made in Ivory or White, Satin or Taffeta, they have a oversized hood. The Ivory one is faux fur trimmed, the white one is not. The cape can have embroidered detailing or be completely plain. Please allow a minimum of 6 weeks to get them made to [...]
