Savvy Cinderella Football 0 – Armed Forces 302

Fabio
It is a busy time during the summer months for everyone in the wedding industry. Although the wedding industry is now busy all year round, May – August is still a very popular time to get married. I haven’t had time to watch Wimbledon – although I may record a match to cure my insomnia, and the football leaves me cold. I have heard the discussions on how the England team are performing, but ofcourse I won’t be watching a game. Its not that I am unpatriotic, it is because it is only a game of football. A game, that to the untrained eye (mine) is full of self serving people, who earn more money in a week than most hard working people do in many years. Earning it isn’t quite the right word, they are given a vast amount of money. They play a few games of football, and train a few days a week. They have first class travel, luxury hotels and spend money in vast amounts – on themselves and hangers on. Listening to John Terry talk about how bad it is for the team to be away from wives, girlfriends and children for so long was quite amazing. I know more than a few men who, given the chance, would love to take a job that would pay in excess of £160K a week, give them first class accommodation and travel, and guarantee lucrative advertising deals, no matter how long they had to leave their families. Especially if they could know they left their wives and children in a luxurious lifestyle, where every want and need was covered whilst they were away. It doesn’t sound like a hard life does it? I wonder how many men in Helmand Province or Kandahar would think that their lives were a little bit more harsh, where they exist on £18K a year, living in tough, life threatening conditions, not knowing how the family they leave behind are going to manage financially or what will happen to them if they were killed or wounded. And what is more incredible to me is that the footballers are paid to do a job, they are not doing it well, and people like Mr Rooney have the nerve to shout at supporters who were disappointed to have paid thousands of pounds to see a team perform in such a lacklustre way. Even the manager gets paid just under ten million pounds to leave early if they loose. Where is the incentive to win? Could I be the next England manager please? My C.V is in the post. My game plan would be:-
Pick all the players from non-league teams, who would play because they love the game, and love their Country, and would give their right arm to represent both. (I appreciate that might not be so helpful for the goalies!) I would then pick a really good coach, also from England, who would want his team to win because he is proud of the game, knows the strategy (and the rules, as I don’t) and loves his country. ( It seems very odd to me that the manager of a English team in the world cup isn’t English.) I would give all the players a lesson in self-respect, how to keep their trousers done up, and make sure they knew the true value of money and love. My team wouldn’t attract gold diggers, as they wouldn’t have the money, just the drive and passion for the game.
There you go, job done.
I was disappointed to see Fabio though, I had heard his name a lot in the past week, and I thought I knew what he looked like. Long haired, foreign, muscles and a penchant for appearing half naked on Mills and Boon covers. On balance, I think my Fabio could have swapped places with the footie one for a few days.
I wish England and all the teams well, and would like to see a team win who actually love football, and not the fame and fortune. I do however wish all the members of our armed forces all the luck in the world, and wholeheartedly will be supporting Armed Forces Day on 26 June 2010. God Bless you all, and thank you for all you do. Every one of our service men and women serving overseas is a Hero, and deserves so much more than we give.
So, that is it, Savvy Cinderella is now officially a footie free zone. But, just to keep my Dad happy ’Come on England’.
Have a great week everyone, it is going to be a good one.
Enjoy it all
Sue xx
